Honeydew

Honey obtained mainly from excretions of plant sucking insects or secretions of living parts of plants. Mana can be animal mildew or honeydew.

Studies have shown that honeydew contains a large number of free amino acids, the more important of which are aspartic acid, alanine, arginine, cystine, glycine, glutamic acid, histidine, lysine, methionine and the like.

Studies show that in Greece to 65% from collecting honey is honeydew (Santas, 1983). Mana appears primarily on spruce (Picea abies L.Karsten), fir (Abies alba Miller), Greek fir (Abies cephalonica Loudon), pine (Pinus sp.), Oak (Quercus sp.), Beech (Fagus sp.) , chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.), lindens (Tilia sp.), maples (Acer sp.) (Schmidt, 1981).
The studies here have shown that apart from leafy and scale insects, bees collect mana also from oak acorns attacked by zheladoviya Acorn weevil and fruit worms. The number of insects associated with the release of mana, It depends on many factors, such as temperature, presence of precipitation and the like. Furthermore, between aphids and ants in forest plantation, there is very close cooperation (symbiosis).

Ants also collect mana produced by lice and use it for food. At the same time they carry the aphids in the fall of leaves in the tree roots, where they spend the winter and in the spring carry them from the roots the trees. Ants and aphids close antennas pat them on the back. Aphids ooze sweet excrement which ants concern in their nest. So the more ants in a forest, the more aphids and producers of mildew.
